A 27-year-old woman who had had severe dystonia musculorum deformans since age 12 was treated with oral daily doses of diazepam to 100 mg with drowsiness controlled by use of methyl-phenidate. Marked benefit resulted and medication was discontinued after 2 years. Reexamination of the patient 6 years after initial contact revealed only minimal evidence of dystonia.
