Levels of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) basic protein (BPI immunoreactive material and CSF lymphocyte in vitro reactivity to BP were determined in patients with demyelinating and other inflammatory diseases of the nervous system. Elevated levels of BP and enhanced in vitro reactivity were observed, but there was no correlation between the magnitude of the in vitro response and the amount of BP-like material in CSF.
